Wolf Family Vineyards offers four estate grown wines in artisanal quantities hand made by Karen Culler in the small winery and cave on the estate: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc and Phaedrus, a blend from the youngest vines on the property. A fortuitous combination of the demanding standards of the winemaker and the family’s “no compromises” philosophy results in wine that pleases the collector’s long term palate. Total winery production averages 1000 cases per year.
2011 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2011 Wolf Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon is an understated wine that deserves a bit of cellaring to bring out its best. The aromatics of black fruits, coffee and dried herbs and tea meld well with the crisp palate along with a smooth mid body and long, silky finish. This wine should cellar well for at least 10 years. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, Estate, 32 cases produced.
2011 Estate Cabernet Franc
The 2011 vintage can best be compared to the 2005 wines. The 2011 Cabernet Franc has a supple and elegant texture and mid palate because of the fully mature and soft tannins. The aromas are herbal, red and stone fruits and anise. The palate has the distinct oily mid texture characteristic of great Cab Franc. This wine exudes softness on the mid palate and velvety tannins on the finish which is a luxury only found in Cabernet Franc. 94% Cabernet Franc, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 73 cases produced.
2011 Phaedrus Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
The 2011 Phaedrus Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys all the benefits of the blended varieties, especially with a healthy dose of Petite Verdot to add depth and a juicy mid palate in this lean year. Malbec offers spice and black cherry aromatics. All of which are supported by the richly textured foundation of Cabernet Sauvignon.
2012 Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Tres Hermanos
The Wolf Family Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc is picked at a low sugar to maintain freshness and the distinct Sauvignon Blanc varietal aromatics... pear, herbal, mineral and grapefruit aromas. A nice natural acidity livens the palate, and along with the lower alcohol, gives a fresh and unctuous quality to the wine. 72% Sauvignon Blanc; 28% Sauvignon Musque, 117 cases produced.
